Pictures from the Saline Celtic Festival

Well, today was the event at Mill Pond Park, Saline, MI and it turned out to be really cool!! There were many games going on and several shows like jousting, sword fighting and reenactments from the Medieval and Renaissance time periods. The games were really cool to see! These guys and women too were lifting these huge telephone pole-like poles and tossing them trying to get each pole flip over and hit the ground at a certain degree.
Imagine a two dimensional clock face on the ground and the pole as the hour hand. What you wanted was the pole to land at twelve o'clock, which was considered the best. So the landing poles were recorded in o'clock type format depending on where the fell.
Then the same men and women would circulate to the different games. Some would swing these heavy weights, some 48 and others 28 pounds. Another game was using a pitch fork to throw a weight (I couldn't actually tell what it was made of but it was obviously heavy and had a hackie sack sewed over top of it to give the players something to stick their pitch forks in) and throw it over a bar placed so high! It looked like a lot of work!
And yet another game was swinging a hammer and throw it as far as you could.
They were all fun to watch!! :)
