Day 3 and still going. Right now, we are in Bangor, Maine, spending the night after the drive today which rained for the latter half. Thunder and lightning with it. We drove all the way through New Hampshire, taking the slower local roads instead of the highway but those roads are mor scenic, which is what we were after.

After our morning meal, we walked out to the water's edge of Lake Champlain.

Across the water we could see the mountains on the other side.

Apparently, the walkway runs seven miles along the lake although we did not walk all of it. We moved on!

The capital! Montpelier's capitol building. We did not stay long; we did not stay at all. We drove through it and continued on our way, which we would come to regret later.

Next, we stopped at Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks to see how they make maple syrup, and get some maple for ourselves. 

We got some maple syrup and some candies made from maple syrup and maple sugar. The taste of maple is so much stronger and richer here in Vermont than compared to the stuff we get in Michigan. No wonder everyone comes to Vermont for maple syrup!

Piling back into the car, we kept going. And this is where we regretted not stopping in Montpelier for food. As we sped along on the local roads we got to lunch time when we all started to et hungry. But we were in the middle of Vermont and then in New Hampshire on the back roads. And there are not a lot of restaurants on the back roads. We ended up stopping at Subway to fill up so we could keep going.

And now we are bunking in Bangor for the night, our first night in Maine.

Now, to bed. All of us are tired and ready to fall asleep. Tomorrow we aim for the coast! On to the ocean!
