Counting the days now until the long awaited visit from Japan… 19 days!! And we are almost ready for them, just a few lights to wire and paint mistakes to cover :) We are so excited!
This past weekend was fun and different, a nice break from our seemingly endless run of "working Saturdays and Sundays". We went up north, to Burt Lake, just a short 30+ miles south of Mackinac City and the bridge to the historical island, Mackinac. The purpose of our trip was to hunt for a cottage on the Burt Lake with my uncle. Some place, in my uncle's words, "for all of us to go and relax".
Starting off on this little adventure, we forcefully woke ourselves up at 5 AM to drive the three hour journey to meet the realtor and commence with the house hunt. After thoroughly surveying I think ten houses, we narrowed it down to a few and plan on returning to the Burt and it's neighboring lake, Mullet Lake, for another look. At night, back at the lodge we stayed at, we all sat around the fire laughing so hard our stomachs hurt the next morning. It was the best time.
The country up there is so beautiful, birch trees scattered through out the forest and the lake it amazing. Sandbars off the end of docks and deep dark blue where the lake drops off to 70 feet.
There would be so much to do up there, a ten mile long lake to kayak around, fishing, hiking, miles of trail to bike on and of course swimming. Summers would be incredible. And the winter, too. The lake is close to winter sports like snowboarding and skiing, which I will have to learn now!
The title of this post is something I got from my dad; he was saying once we found some place we would all become "Burties" a name he invented for people living on Burt Lake. And, I suppose if we vacation up there enough we will become one!
