Last weekend was a holiday, Labor Day Weekend, which my Dad got Monday off from work. At first we were supposed to go to my uncle's but his schedule proved to be too busy (I recall 20+ surgeries he had) so we formulated our Plan B.
Sunday, we departed home late in the late afternoon and drove about a half an hour to Tecumseh for a round of putt putt (miniature) golf and then a meal. Finding a meal was not successful. There is this phenomenon in small town America we continue to happen upon; businesses being closed on Sundays. A problem to the weekend traveler. So, the food foraging didn't go so well but we managed a little sustenance and continued on with our main purpose; finding the miniature golf course.
Once we arrived at the chosen putt putt course, we commenced with the game. Everyone did well with Eric winning. He was then dubbed the 'Chooser of Deserts' for the evening.
Then, with our Monday clear and a cool still morning on the patio whilst sipping warm tea, my parents and I concocted a plan; to drive the 2.5 hours to Holland and try a new beach we heard while in Saugatuck with our friends from japan. My brothers were still fast asleep when the beach-bound plan was in the works. After a quick breakfast and hasty packing we headed toward the west coast, me in the driver's seat. It was the longest I had ever driven in one stretch and I was very happy to had over the keys to my Dad when we decided the the new beach, Oval Beach, was not as good as Tunnel Park.
Back at our favorite beach spot, we spent the rest of the day bathing the sunlight and swimming int eh ice cold lake. To our surprise, the lake water was even colder than when we took our friends there a month ago. This might well be our last visit to Holland for the year, seeing as how much colder the lake had gotten.
After a good day at the beach, the long drive home in the dark awaited, but we grabbed a coffee before driving the bulk of the distance.
A spontaneous weekend holiday with a few adventures.
