The First of the trails we hiked on our trip. It was supposed to the warmest day during our travels, but it felt the coldest. The path we followed was covered with snow and because many, many people had trodden on it before us, there was much ice. The ice made it a bit more difficult than we were used to, but it didn't hinder us much at all.
Alongside this trail, the foliage was still green! Not only was there a still green leaves but moss still seemed to thrive. The scenery was amazing; the contrast between the white snow and bright green lichen was very beautiful.
We didn't hike to the end of the trail, but we did make it to the cave. There, Eric discovered the amazingly good taste of icicles formed from mountain stream water. Maybe it was that we were tired and thirsty? Or maybe they really do have a different taste? I don't know but after Eric shared his icicle with us, we made a effort to find them on the other trails.
