Though it's melting little by little, enough snow remains that my mom and I could hike. And today, we finally got the time to leave the warm confines of the house and walk out into the chilled and frozen landscape of the woods around our home. The air was cold but it was not hard to breath. The sky was covered with a thin veil of cloud and the sun barely broke through.
It was quite out there, hardly any birds called from the tree tops, however the signs of animal life were everywhere. The tracks of rabbits, deer, dogs of some sort, raccoons and maybe possums as well.
Though the snow on the ground appears to be slowly melting into the soil beneath, the streams we crossed today were frozen through, at least two inches of ice supporting your weight as you place one foot and lightly as humanly possible in front of the other foot.
We spent over an hour outside today, and tomorrow we'll go again, taking the boys, too.
