It's warm. The sun's light was warm, awakening the green plant life. We were outside in shorts and t-shirts today, cleaning up the gardens, pruning the front landscaping and surveying the new growth of the tulips and budding trees.
It's really spring now; this week Sunday marks the official change to Spring. We have the windows open during the day to let the fresh air into the house. This morning as my mom was reading aloud East of Eden, a book by John Steinbeck, I was watching a squirrel rummage through the wet soil of the gardens and matted grass. The birds greet me every morning; their chirping drifts through my window, waking my from my much wanted sleep.
The sun sets much later now. It feels like just a week ago it would get dark around five P.M. but now it stays light well into seven P.M. Not long from now the sun will still be casting shadows when we're going to bed.
Today we received some very good news. We got our apartment assignment in Chicago; we will be on the 47th floor! It turns out that our building is the tallest of the apartment buildings in the city of Chicago… fifty floors in all. Luckily we got assigned the floor plan we wanted, with two bedrooms and facing the lake, Lake Michigan. Everyone is really excited, especially my mom. We keep getting lucky, makes me think we are heading in the right direction.

(The Tulips breaching the earth in search of sunlight.)
(The gardens prepared for the coming summer. We covered them with leaves form the woods so that the seeds of weeds etc. don't get into the soil and take root.)
(The new buds on the pear tree.)
