Back home from sunny warm Key West, Florida, so a brown Michigan eagerly awaiting spring's arrival.
Our trip to the southern most point of the United States was incredible! We snorkeled and explored the island's town and glanced at the other islands as we drove through them to reach Key West. Everyday the sun was shining and the waters warm even though it was March.
We spent most of the days at the pool, leaving in the evening for dinner around town, walking Duval Street many times.
Snorkeling was quite fun, the fish came right up to the boat, barracuda schools swam from us as we tried to get pictures of them. There was a group of black fish with vibrant blue adorning their fins, and many other different fishes to chase under water.
The place we stayed at, The Reach, turned out to be great. The pool was positioned next to the beach and once you got pasted the rocks treacherously scattered in the sand it was open and clear, the water was bright blue and translucent so we could see the sand beneath the waves.
Although the first day we all got sunburned, we still spend most of our time poolside and enjoying the tropical weather, the ocean waves and the little lizards as they played behind our chairs in the landscaping.
The trip was well worth the early mornings getting to the airport on our way to the Floridian island and the 2:30 a.m. drive back to Fort Lauderdale's airport.
Getting back to Michigan presented a difficulty... We were passed halfway through the four hour drive from Fort Lauderdale and Key West when the rented van's transmission gave out, forcing us to travel at 20 miles per hour, crawling toward the airport. Finally, we got a replacement after reaching Miami's airport and trading in the broken down vehicle for another van and raced to reach the flight, barely making it in time for our flight back to Detroit, Michigan.
So, now on to the pictures……
P.S. おめでとう! Junpei!
This and the next two pictures are from the drive down to Key West from Fort Lauderdale. It was such an absolute beautiful day!!

We passed this huge group of parasailing persons along the shore and highway. Looks like a lot of fun!

There were roosters everywhere!!! Once when my uncle was running in the morning he was pursued by several of the loud animals!
At Mallory Square in the evening there are many street performers, mostly they all do something involving fire.

This picture is quite a bit blurry but it was hard to get the camera to focus on the juggling torches.
One night we went on a "Ghost Walk" (which was walking around the town and listening to ghost stories all originating in Key West) and while stopped at one location the moon finally came through the clouds.

At the pool, we had our chairs positioned in the shade and our backs toward the ocean for a breeze and in the landscaping these little lizards would play around us, chasing each other!
