Last night we sparked another fire in the fire pit and sat out in the unseasonably warm January night watching the orange flames dance. We laughed and made s'mores again trying to use up the rest of the marshmallows and chocolate from New Year's Eve night, but we didn't quite succeed. So, perhaps, another fire in the future?

Lighting the fire.
The full moon is this Monday, but it was plenty large and wonderful last night as well.
The fire blazing bright.
We were all wrapped up for the cold, but we didn't need it much since the air had no chill.
The first step in making a s'more: warming the marshmallow until it starts to melt so that it will melt the chocolate between the gram crackers.
Sandwiching the marshmallow between the gram crackers.
And the finished product: melty marshmallow, warmed dark chocolate, and two gram crackers.
Mom's favorite part of the fire: smoldering embers. They shimmer a little, like waves of orange water wash over them.
We stayed out watching the fire until there was only embers left in the pit, and then we went in to bed, retiring to soft warm sheets for the night.
